HUNTER CIVIL’S THREE WATERS INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS

Hunter Civil has entered 2022 strongly and is progressing along well with several Three Waters infrastructure projects, which have been underway across the South Island since before Christmas. Hunter Civil are specialists in many areas, one of which is ‘three waters’.

The largest of the current projects is the construction of a new wastewater pump station for Nelson City Council in Nelson’s Awatea Place. The new pump station is being constructed to replace aging infrastructure and to manage the increasing population demands from the town. One of the challenges on this project is the vicinity to the Nelson Airport main runway, which has introduced height and time restrictions on the type and size of plant and equipment that can be used to complete the project. Led by a team of experts in the Christchurch office and on site, Hunter Civil has recently reached the milestone of the installation of a 9.2-metre-tall, 3.5-metre-diameter prefabricated fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) wet well. Alongside this, it has also installed a six-metre-tall, 1.8-metre-diameter prefabricated FRP inlet manhole, and two four-metre-diameter by 19-metre-long FRP storage tanks.

The control room construction, system commissioning and some of the pipe reticulation connecting the old pump stations with the new remain to be completed on site with the project scheduled for completion later this year.
