Training to build New Zealand’s infrastructure

The country’s infrastructure training trailblazers for the civil construction sector have been recognised at the recent Connexis Civil Training and Development Awards.

Connexis is the national infrastructure industry training provider, and the business division of Te Pūkenga – New Zealand Institute of Skills and Technology, developing, managing and delivering training for the civil construction, energy, telecommunications, and water sectors.

Each year, the Connexis Civil Training and Development Awards recognise companies that prioritise the development of their people through internal training programs and opportunities to take up nationally recognised qualifications through Connexis. This year’s winners are Odlum Group from Morrinsville, InfraCore in Rotorua, and HEB Construction.

Connexis’s Executive Director, Kaarin Gaukrodger, says that the three winning companies were clear examples of organisations that took pride in helping their people reach their career goals through gaining lifelong qualifications, and set a great example for other companies that might be looking to further develop their training policies.

‘Their commitment to workforce development through creating a culture of training not only strengthens their own companies, but also supports the sustainability of the wider infrastructure industry,’ Gaukrodger says.

Connexis hosts and supports a range of other initiatives to boost infrastructure careers and training, such as Girls with Hi-Vis®, the annual Connexis Energy Trainee Awards, and the upcoming Annual Connection – showcasing the energy sector’s talents in the national line mechanic and cable jointer competitions.
